立教大学総長 西原廉太
立教大学で学ぶ留学生の皆さん、こんにちは。
私たちは、日本で学ぼう、そして立教大学で学ぼうと考えている留学生の皆さんが、日本に来られず、そして立教大学のキャンパスで一緒に学べない状況にあることを、本当に悲しく、そして残念に思っています。
現在は、新型コロナウイルス・オミクロン株の想定外のまん延により、留学生の皆さんが日本に入国できない状況が続いています。立教大学は、１日も早く、皆さんが立教大学のキャンパスで学べるよう、他の大学とも連携しながら、日本政府に対して留学生の受け入れを再開するよう働きかけてきました。そして日本政府も、入国制限の解除に向けた動きを見せつつあります。この入国制限が解除された際には、皆さんが渡日し、すぐに立教大学での学びを始められるよう、常にそのための準備を調えています。
立教大学は、皆さんが日本に入国できない間も、その学びの機会を止めないよう、オンライン授業をはじめ、できる限りの取り組みをしていきます。皆さんも、立教大学のキャンパスで学べる日が来ることを信じて、たゆまず学びを続けていってほしいと思っています。
私たちは、本学の学生である皆さん、そしてこれから本学の学生となる皆さんのことをいつも考えています。留学生の皆さんが、今後の学びに当たって、何かわからないことや不安なことがあれば、遠慮なく国際センターまでご相談ください。
皆さんと、立教大学のキャンパスでお会いできる日を心から楽しみにしています。

We are truly saddened by and deeply regret the state of affairs in which all of you who are studying at Rikkyo University and hoping to study in Japan are unable to come to Japan to study together on campus at Rikkyo University.
Currently, due to the Novel Coronavirus Omicron variant spreading beyond expectations, international students continue to be unable to enter Japan. Rikkyo University has, in cooperation with other universities as well, appealed to the Japanese government to resume accepting international students so that you all may study on campus at Rikkyo University as soon as possible. And the Japanese government is starting to show movements toward removing restrictions to entering the country. Rikkyo University is constantly making preparations so that all of you can come to Japan and begin your studies at Rikkyo University’s campus immediately upon those restrictions to entering the country being lifted.
During the period in which all of you are unable to enter Japan, Rikkyo University will continue to make the upmost effort so that you are still able to study with online courses and other means. It is our hope that all of you as well continue to believe that the day you can study on campus at Rikkyo University will come and that you persevere in your studies.
We are always thinking of all of you, the students of this university, as well as all who are to become students of this university. For all international students, during your studies from here onward, if there is ever anything you are unsure of or worried about, please do not hesitate to consult with the International Office.
From the bottom of our hearts, we are looking forward to the day we can meet on campus at Rikkyo University.
